The final two Junior Community Champions were announced on Friday 2nd September live on air with Kev Lawrence at PCR fm.
Following the award of £1,500 to Noah the previous week, two further Junior Community Champions were named and awarded £1,000 and £2,500 for their chosen charities.
The winner of the £1,000 donation was Beano who stood out for his commitment to fund raising for local charity Head to Toe. At just nine years old Beano has been holding bake sales for the charity within his local area and to date has raised £1,500 for them. Laura Semple, Community and Events fundraiser for the charity nominated Beano and said “This young man continues to surprise us with his incredible efforts, he’s an absolute superstar and I would love to see him be rewarded for his hard work.”
When speaking to Kev on air Beano said his driving force for the fundraising was knowing people with mental health problems and also knowing that the Head to Toe Charity can provide help and support for those living with mental health conditions. You can listen to Beano’s interview with Kev and Matthew from Princebuild here.
The winner of the £2,500 donation was an outstanding nomination from the head teacher at Yaxley Infant School, Donna Edson. Donna nominated the children and families of the school for their amazing efforts in raising funds for Cancer Research UK via the ‘Schools Race for Life’ initiative. The charity is described as ‘close to the hearts’ of the school as two members of staff were diagnosed with breast cancer in the last year.
The children took on the challenge and started practicing their running, they decided that although it was a race they wanted to maximise their sponsorship and ensure everyone completed the event, so they decided to run as a team. On the day they all completed the run with support from parents and families cheering them around the 1km route. One youngster unfortunately missed the race but still wanted to complete the event so covered the distance in his own time with his Dad supporting him.
The nomination stood out as the fundraising had involved so many children and their families and they had done so well raising over £4,000 for a charity that they felt so passionate about. You can listen to Donna’s interview with Kev and Matthew Pudney here.
Matthew Pudney, Director, commented “It’s been amazing to hear so many stories about young people doing great things in the communities in and around our city. All of the nominations received were worthy of recognition but we could only choose three as our finalists and they had all worked really hard to become our junior community champions.
“On behalf of all of the team at Princebuild I would like to congratulate all of the nominees and our finalists on the great work that they are doing and I hope that they go on to inspire others to do just the same.”
