Princebuild Director Mark Asplin recently joined the Helping Our Ukrainian Friends (HOUF) team on a demanding but deeply moving trip to Kyiv, Ukraine, delivering two vital vehicles to support frontline aid efforts.
The journey began with a flight to Bucharest, Romania, where the team purchased the vehicles before embarking on a 900-mile drive across Ukraine. With road conditions in a terrible state, they witnessed two accidents along the way, a reminder of just some of the difficult conditions Ukrainians face daily. After 12 hours of driving, they finally arrived in Kyiv, where the vehicles were handed over for repairs and repainting before the official handover took place.
Reflecting on the experience, Mark Asplin shared how humbling it was to meet the individuals who will now take these vehicles to frontline areas. “It was a real reality check. These vehicles will be driven straight into some of the most dangerous areas, providing critical support. The dedication and bravery of these individuals are beyond words, and it’s clear that we must do everything we can to continue supporting their vital work. It’s been an extremely moving experience.”
The team returned home via a sleeper train from Kyiv to Krakow, followed by a flight, carrying with them the powerful memories of the people they met and the ongoing need for support in Ukraine.
